2012 Dodge Ram 2500 Longhorn Edition – Edmonton Review

If there’s one thing I know about Albertans, they love trucks. Not just any trucks, really loaded up trucks.

So when I heard we were getting a new premium model Ram, I was pretty excited.

This is the all new 2012 Ram Longhorn 2500. The Longhorn comes in the 1500, 2500 and 3500 models. The one we are looking at today is the 3/4 ton diesel with the Megacab.

Most of these trucks sell with the legendary Cummins Turbo Diesel engine but the Ram 2500 is also available with the powerful Hemi V8 gas engine.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Longhorn edition Ram is the distinctive styling. This truck is available in a few different colours but they all get a unique exterior and interior design.

This is a serious truck , with exceptional  towing and hauling capability, but with luxury car features. Just look at the saddle leather. Even if you don’t like this sort of cowboy or western styling, I think you might like the look and feel of this truck. Notice the saddle style buckles and the stitching.

As I mentioned before, most of these trucks come with the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. (350 horsepower and an amazing 800 pound feet of torque).  Dodge has the only diesel engine on the market, (in pickup trucks), that does not require DEF, (diesel exhaust fluid), to meet strict emissions standards. This is because, in our cold climate here in Edmonton Alberta, having to use diesel exhaust fluid can be expensive and a real nuisance.

The Longhorn model comes equipped with very heavy duty, yet still smooth shifting, 6 sped automatic transmission. Also heated and cooled seat, heated steering wheel, dual zone climate control, navigation system with backup camera, and the integrated brake controller which uses all the technology of the truck to adjust braking as necessary. And, if you hit the remote start when the temperature outside is below freezing, this truck is smart enough to turn on the heated seats, and heated steering wheel.

This is a hardworking, heavy duty Ram truck that’s dressed up very nicely.

Thanks for tagging along.
